Letter to Long Bojian [I]
(March 14, 1950)

Mr. Bojian:

Your esteemed letter of November 11 last year has been received and read. I am extremely gratified that you, my brother, have joined the revolution and are engaged in public health work. The name "New Hunan Daily" was chosen by comrades in Hunan, and its coincidental resemblance to the earlier publication [2] has brought you joy, in which I also feel honored. The old verses are not worth preserving, and there is no need to rewrite them. I hope you will continue to work diligently and serve the people. Wishing you great peace!

[I] Long Bojian, originally named Long Yuying, served as the chief editor of the journal *New Hunan* during the May Fourth Movement. At the time, he was the Director of the Health Department of the Hunan Provincial Interim Government.

[2] This refers to the fact that the *New Hunan Daily*, founded by the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee in the early days of the founding of New China, shared the same name as the journal *New Hunan*, which Long Yuying and Mao Zedong had successively edited during the May Fourth period.
