The work you are currently engaged in〔2〕 is of the utmost importance; we earnestly hope that you will devote yourself wholeheartedly to it so as to achieve tangible results.

Notes 〔1〕 Zhang Zhizhong, with the courtesy name Wenbai, was at the time a member of the People’s Revolutionary Military Commission and head of its Defense Research Group, as well as vice chairman of the Northwest Military and Political Committee. 〔2〕 Refers to the efforts undertaken by Zhang Zhizhong, with the approval of the CPC Central Committee and Mao Zedong, to secure a peaceful resolution of the Taiwan question.
