People’s Republic of China, and for your efforts in promoting the friendship
between the Chinese and American peoples.

1. The Committee for a Democratic Far Eastern Policy was established soon after the surrender
of the Japanese forces in Asia at the end of the Second World War, It was based primarily in Cali-fornia and the west coast of the United States. In 1948, the California Committee on Un-Ameri-can Activities identified it as a “communist-front organization.”
