Central Committee Telegram on Identifying Democratic Figures to Participate in Work in Guangxi (October 19, 1949) To the Central China Bureau: Your opinion of October 17 to appoint Li Renren[1] as either a vice director or vice chairman of Guangxi is correct. Yun Yi[2] is currently discussing this matter with Li Renren. After our forces have occupied the entire province of Guangxi, we will continue to identify other democratic figures to join the work. Printed from Mao Zedong’s handwritten draft under the code name “Youhao.” [1] Li Renren had previously served as a member of the Legislative Yuan of the Nationalist government. In the winter of 1947, he participated in Hong Kong in the founding of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang. At that time, he was a member of the First National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. [2] Yun Yi refers to Zhang Yunyi, who at the time held the positions of Second Secretary of the South China Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Guangxi Provincial Committee of the CPC.
