Hereby reply. Mao Zedong You Shan Printed from the manuscript. Notes [1] Wei Lihuang served in 1948 as Commander-in-Chief of the Nationalist Government’s Northeast “Bandit Suppression” Headquarters. On the eve of Shenyang’s liberation, he returned to Nanjing and was placed under house arrest by Chiang Kai-shek. In early 1949, he fled to Hong Kong. The telegram he sent to Mao Zedong was dispatched from Hong Kong. [ ] Zhang Feng, also known as Rao Zhangfeng, was at that time a member of the Hong Kong–Macau Work Committee of the South China Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. The full text of the telegram reads: “Under your wise leadership, the people’s revolution has finally achieved a glorious victory; henceforth, all Chinese people have a great leader, and there is hope for a strong and prosperous New China. I respectfully send this telegram to extend my congratulations. Please convey my heartfelt greetings to Vice Chairman Zhu and Premier Zhou.”
