On October 15, 1948, the Political Department of the Railway Corps established the corps party committee’s official newspaper—the “Iron Army” Daily. On May 6, 1949, the Northeast Field Army’s Railway Corps was reorganized into the Railway Corps of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, with Teng Daiyuan concurrently serving as both commander and political commissar. He transformed the “Iron Army” Daily into the Railway Corps party committee’s official publication and decided to rename it the “Iron Army Daily.” Teng Daiyuan requested that Mao Zedong write the newspaper’s headline, which was first used on August 13.
