the Popular Socialist Party of Cuba
(July 21, 1949)
(Xinhua News Agency, Beiping, July 21) Chairman Mao of the Chinese
Communist Party just received a telegram celebrating the twenty-eighth anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party, sent by Blas Roca, general secretary of the
Central Committee of the Popular Socialist Party1 of Cuba in Central America.
Now Chairman Mao Zedong is sending a telegram in reply:
Comrade Blas Roca [Blas Roca Calderio, 1908–1957]:
Thank you for your congratulations on the twenty-eighth anniversary of the
Chinese Communist Party. China and Cuba are two countries distant from each
other, but the basic aim of struggle for the two peoples is the same. This has created an inseparable international friendship between the two countries, like the
international friendship among the proletariat of all countries and the laboring
people of all countries. We wish success for the struggle of the people of Cuba
and Cuba’s Popular Socialist Party against American imperialism! We wish success for the common struggle of people throughout the world against American
imperialism!
Chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party,
Mao Zedong

1.  The Popular Socialist Party took its name in 1944 after being established as the
Communist Party of Cuba in 1925. Initially critical of Fidel Castro, it merged into the
Integrated Revolutionary Organizations, the precursor of the current Communist Party of
Cuba, in 1961.
