Telegram in Reply to General Zuo
Xiezhong et al.

(Xinhua News Agency, Beiping, July 11) General Zuo Xiezhong and others formerly belonging to the Guomindang’s Twenty-second Army accepted a plan to
peacefully resolve the problem of their corps. Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu sent a telegram in reply to encourage them today. The content of the
telegram is as follows:
General Zuo Xiezhong [1889–1950, native of Shaanxi] and all commanders
and soldiers who formerly belonged to the Guomindang’s Twenty-second Army:
We were exceedingly gratified to receive and read your circular regarding leading your subordinates to accept the plan for peaceful resolution so that your army
can celebrate liberation along with the people of the Yulin region.1 We still hope
you will do your best to unify your troops, intensify your training and consolidation, improve the relationship between commanders and soldiers and between the
army and the people, and strive to take part in the grand task of fighting for the
liberation of Northwest China.
