Telegram in Reply to General Wu Qiwei et al.

Chairman Mao and Chief Commander Zhu sent a telegram in reply to General
Wu Qiwei today. The telegram stated:
Messrs. Wu Qiwei, Li Jiezhi, Zeng Tianjie, Xiao Wen, Wei Jianxian, Dong
Juchu, Wei Hanxin, and Zhang Sukui:1
We were very gratified to receive and read your declaration of May 14th in
which you resolved to break away from the Guomindang reactionaries and join
the ranks of the People’s Liberation Army. We hope you will honor the regulations of the People’s Liberation Army, transform your armies, cooperate unanimously with the entire People’s Liberation Army, and strive to liberate the entire
province of Guangdong. At the same time, tell all of the Guomindang forces in
Guangdong that whoever is willing to break away from the reactionaries and join
the People’s Liberation Army will not be called to account for their past misdeeds
and that we will welcome them.
