On the 21st, approximately 300,000 troops of the People’s Liberation Army had already crossed the Yangtze River. The crossing operation began at midnight on the 20th, between Wuhu and Anqing. The Kuomintang reactionaries had spent three and a half months fortifying their Yangtze River defense line, but upon encountering the PLA, it collapsed like rotten wood before a strong wind; morale sank to zero, and their forces routed in disarray. With the river calm and smooth, our fleet of ten thousand vessels set sail simultaneously, heading straight for the opposite bank. In less than twenty-four hours, 300,000 PLA soldiers broke through the enemy lines, seized a vast area on the southern bank, and are now advancing toward the cities of Fanchang, Tongling, Qingyang, Digang, and Lugang. The People’s Liberation Army is resolutely carrying out the orders of Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu with its own heroic fighting spirit.
