Words Added to a Telegram to Wu Kejian[1]

(January 28, 1949)

It is hoped that Liu Zhongrong be asked to go immediately and tell Li and Bai never to believe any of Chiang Kai-shek’s tricks. The Guangxi clique should prepare to break decisively with the Chiang clique and coordinate with our side to finish off the Chiang clique; only thus can it distinguish itself from the Chiang clique before the people.

[1] This is a passage added by Mao Zedong to a telegram drafted by Zhou Enlai to Wu Kejian. Wu Kejian was then tasked by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with underground intelligence liaison work for the Party in Shanghai.
