Telegram from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Congratulating the Liberation of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng[1]

(October 25, 1948)

Comrades Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping, and all comrades of the Central Plains People's Liberation Army:

Zhengzhou has been liberated, with over ten thousand enemy troops annihilated. The defending enemy forces in Kaifeng abandoned the city and fled eastward, resulting in the second recovery of Kaifeng. Henceforth, the three major cities of the Central Plains—Luoyang, Zhengzhou, and Kaifeng—have all fallen into the hands of the People's Liberation Army, which is extremely favorable for the future course of the war. We send this special telegram of congratulations.
