(Xinhua News Agency dispatch, northern Shanxi, October 27)
Today, Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu sent a telegram in
reply to General Zeng Zesheng, commander of the Sixtieth Army that revolted in
Changchun. The content of the telegram is as follows:
To Army Commander Zeng, Division Commander Bai, Division Commander
Liu, and all commanders and soldiers:
We received the telegram sent on October 17th. We were very gratified that
your troops revolted at Changchun and joined the People’s Liberation Army,
allowing Changchun to be liberated in an orderly fashion. This action by your
army commander should be emulated by all the Guomindang commanders and
soldiers in Northeast China and throughout the country who are willing to wake
up. We hope that under the leadership of Commander Lin [Biao] and Political
Commissar Luo [Ronghuan] you will unify all your troops, try your best to make
progress, improve the relationship between commanders and soldiers and between
the army and the people, fight side by side with the People’s Liberation Army
throughout the country, strive to drive out the forces of American aggression and
fight the Guomindang reactionaries, and build a new China.
