(October 22, 1948)
(Xinhua News Agency dispatch, October 22)
General Wu Huawen et al. who revolted in Ji’nan, published a telegram, as
reported yesterday. Chairman Mao of the Central Committee of the Chinese
Communist Party sent a telegram of congratulations today. The content of the
telegram is as follows:
To Commander Wu [Huawen],1 Brigade Commander Yang, Brigade
Commander Zhao, Brigade Commander He, and to all commanders and soldiers:
I am extremely happy, esteemed Commander, that you and the others led your
troops to revolt and published a telegram stating your resolve to join the undertaking of the people’s liberation. The Chinese Communist Party takes the standpoint
of the people, and we do not consider the past actions of any commander or soldier in the Guomindang army; we will enthusiastically welcome them, as long as
they become conscious of their error, break away from the reactionary leadership
of the Guomindang government, join the camp of the People’s Liberation Army,
and resolutely reject American imperialism and its running dogs, the Guomindang
reactionaries, at this critical juncture in the war for the people’s liberation. This
revolt by you, Commander, and the others is consistent with the hopes of the people and is a cause for great celebration. We hope that you can unify your entire
army and make a strong effort to progress in improving the relationship between
commanders and soldiers and between the army and the people, and that you will
strive for the victory of the revolutionary war throughout the entire country.
Mao Zedong
