Reply to Overseas Chinese Organizations[1]

(October 1, 1948)

Mr. Tan Kah Kee, and please convey to all overseas Chinese democratic groups everywhere and all overseas compatriots who uphold democracy:

The telegram from the May 4th Singapore Overseas Chinese Congress and the letters and telegrams from various overseas Chinese organizations in Southeast Asia have, owing to communication disruptions, only just come to hand. We are deeply moved by the concern you gentlemen show for the motherland and by your support for our Party’s May 1st statement on the current situation; your enthusiasm and farsightedness fill us with admiration. We hope that you gentlemen and our overseas compatriots in all circles will continue to wire us your concrete opinions on the convening of the new Political Consultative Conference, so that we may proceed accordingly. We earnestly look forward to them.

Mao Zedong
Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China
