(April 29, 1948)

Anying, my son:

We have arrived in Shijiazhuang. Anqing has a letter for you, in Russian. The original text was lost just before departure. I am hereby enclosing the translation.

Your father

April 29, 1948

[1] On April 22, 1948, the Northwest Field Army recovered Yan'an. Upon hearing the news, Mao Anying was extremely excited. How he longed to go and see his father! Just as he was gazing westward with eager anticipation, Mao Zedong had already left northern Shaanxi and entered the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Liberated Area. During the long journey of ten thousand li, Mao Zedong wrote this letter to his son.
