Telegram Expressing Condolences to Comrade Tokuda Kyuichi on His Assassination Attempt April 28, 1948
(Xinhua News Agency, Northern Shaanxi, the 21st) Reports from various sources indicate that Tokuda Kyuichi, General Secretary of the Japanese Communist Party, was attacked and injured while delivering a speech to more than 3,000 people in the mayor’s hall of Hita City, Kyushu Island, on the 19th. The assailant hurled a water bottle filled with explosives, which detonated near Comrade Tokuda, leaving him with over thirty minor wounds. Despite his injuries, he had them bandaged and then continued his unfinished speech.
