(February 15, 1948)

(1) This letter is not to be published. (2) Ask Lu and Qiao[2] to take responsibility for reviewing the entire collection once, marking whatever is unsuitable for public release or inappropriate, and offering their opinions. Publication shall proceed only after revisions are made. Instruct the Northeast Bureau to temporarily postpone printing, distribution, and translation into foreign languages.

[1] In the telegram, Lin Biao requested that when publishing the Selected Works of Mao Zedong and releasing the letter Mao Zedong wrote to him on January 5, 1930, his name not be made public. When this letter was included in the Selected Works of Mao Zedong, it was entitled “A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire.”

[2] Lu refers to Lu Dingyi. Qiao refers to Hu Qiaomu.
