It can be anticipated that within the two or three months beginning in April, Chiang Kai-shek's army will shift from the offensive to the defensive, while the People's Liberation Army will shift from the defensive to the offensive. The development of historical events has proved so unexpected: Chiang Kai-shek's occupation of Yan'an will mark his downfall, and the People's Liberation Army's abandonment of Yan'an will mark the victory of the Chinese people.
