March 1946: A telegram from Commander Ye Zhiye read: “To Comrade Mao Zedong, forwarding to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China: I was released from prison last night. I am resolved to fulfill my long-cherished wish to join the great Communist Party of China and, under your leadership, to devote all my energies to the liberation of the Chinese people. I request that the Central Committee review my record to determine my eligibility and kindly reply. Signed: Ye Ting, Yinwei.”  The Central Committee of the CPC replied: “Dear Comrade Ye Ting: We have received your telegram of the 5th and are delighted to learn of your release, which has filled the hearts of the people with joy. For more than a decade you have waged an unrelenting struggle for the national and people’s liberation of China, enduring countless severe trials. Throughout China, all are well aware of your boundless loyalty to the nation and the people. It is hereby decided to admit you as a member of the Communist Party of China. We extend to you our warmest greetings and heartfelt welcome. The Central Committee of the CPC, March 7.”
