Mao Anying was Chairman Mao’s son. He had studied at Moscow State University in the Soviet Union and had only recently returned from there. Chairman Mao said to him:

“You’ve attended a university in the Soviet Union, but you haven’t yet experienced the Border Region Labor University. The president of that university is ×××, and it is located in Wujiazao Garden. Its students are all hardworking people. Going there to study will be of great benefit to you.” Mao Anying expressed his willingness to go. Chairman Mao then said:

“That’s fine. But you should also take some ‘tuition’ with you.” Chairman Mao gave him a dou of rice and told him to carry it on his back as he made the journey. By the time he reached Wujiazao Garden, he was so exhausted that he was drenched in sweat.
