Telegram to the CPC Delegation in Nanjing[1]

(November 15, 1946)

The "National Assembly" has already convened.[2] With the exception of Dong and a small number of others who are to remain in the capital, Zhou and all the rest should return to Yan'an immediately.

[1] This is the main content of a telegram drafted by Mao Zedong for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to the CPC delegation in Nanjing.

[2] On November 15, the "National Assembly" unilaterally convened by the Kuomintang opened in Nanjing. Apart from the Youth Party, the Democratic Socialist Party, and a few so-called public worthies who were attached to the Kuomintang, the majority of figures from the third force did not participate.

On November 15, 1946, Chiang Kai-shek convened the "National Assembly." On November 16, Zhou Enlai held a press conference in Nanjing for Chinese and foreign journalists, declaring that the Communist Party of China resolutely refused to recognize this "National Assembly."

In November 1946, Zhou Enlai returned from Nanjing. Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and others went to the airport to welcome him.
