[1] This is the main content of a telegram drafted by Mao Zedong for the Central Military Commission, addressed to Nie Rongzhen, Xiao Ke, and Liu Lantao, with notification to Zhang Zongxun and Luo Ruiqing. On September 7, Nie Rongzhen and Xiao Ke replied to the Central Military Commission: "Fu's diehard forces are advancing eastward but are still unable to obtain direct coordination from both the eastern and western fronts. It remains advantageous for us to first concentrate our forces to strike Fu's diehard forces while continuing the siege of Datong."

[2] Sui-Fu refers to the Kuomintang forces under Fu Zuoyi advancing from Suiyuan.
