To Luo Ronghuan[1]

(June 30, 1946)

After you arrive at your destination, in addition to seeking medical treatment, please find Filippov[2] and present an account of the situation in Manchuria, but do not make excessive or overly numerous requests. The struggle in the Northeast must rely primarily on self-reliance. Furthermore, please present an account, based on what you know, of the situation in the liberated areas inside the Pass, but make no requests whatsoever, as the areas inside the Pass must rely entirely on self-reliance.

[1] This is the main content of a telegram drafted by Mao Zedong for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to Luo Ronghuan, who was about to go to the Soviet Union for medical treatment. In July, Luo Ronghuan and his wife went to the Soviet Union for medical treatment and returned to China in May of the following year.

[2] Filippov was a code name for Stalin.
