During the ceasefire, the Northeast troops should rest, recuperate, and replenish,
and strictly guard against enemy attacks[1]

(June 6, 1946)

To the Northeast Bureau, Lin, with copies to Xiao and Zeng, Li and Huang, Chen and Gao[2]:

According to a telegram from Ning Zhou[3] on the 5th, the 15-day ceasefire agreement[4] will take effect from the 7th and last until the 21st. During these 15 days, our Party delegation will conduct negotiations with the Kuomintang in Nanjing. All units of our Northeast Democratic Coalition Army should make use of these 15 days to rest and replenish, boost morale, and prepare for renewed fighting. Within these 15 days, if the Kuomintang abides by the agreement and ceases its offensives, we should likewise abide by the agreement and halt military clashes. However, we must strictly guard against enemy incursions and must not relax our vigilance.
