Resolutely Defend Siping and for the Present
Do Not Launch Any Large-Scale Offensives
 (April 30, 1946, midnight)
To Lin [Biao]:1
We received your telegram of the 27th.
	 1. We are very pleased to hear that you beat back the enemy’s offensive on the
26th and captured some of the enemy.
	 2. The situation is in a state of flux, and it is possible that a ceasefire agreement
will be signed within a day or two.
	 3. We hope you will defend Siping to the death and fight for every inch.
	 4. You must command a powerful force of reserve troops, conserving their
energy for use in the future; for the present, it is not advisable to launch any
large-scale attacks against the enemy.
