Mr. Qingen: The victorious tide of the Chinese Revolution has brought the reactionaries to the brink of their doom. I am deeply concerned about the situation in Shanghai. A new Political Consultative Conference will be convened in North China. After enduring countless hardships, the Chinese people’s revolution has at last begun to realize Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s cherished aspirations. I earnestly hope that you will journey north to participate in this great undertaking of the people’s history and to offer your guidance on how to build a new China. As for arrangements to travel from Shanghai to the north, I have already discussed the matter thoroughly with Mengxing, Hanyan, and Zhonghua, with safety as our paramount consideration. Please accept this telegram as my respectful greetings; I look forward to your reply. Mao Zedong Zhou Enlai Zihao
