To Mr. Chen Jiageng, with request that this be forwarded to democratic organizations of overseas Chinese in various localities and to all overseas Chinese who advocate democracy: The telegram from the Singapore Conference of Overseas Chinese Organizations dated May 4, together with letters and telegrams from overseas Chinese organizations throughout Nanyang, have only now come to hand owing to communication disruptions. Your earnest concern for the motherland and your support for our Party’s statement of May 1 concerning the current situation are deeply appreciated. We would be most grateful if you and other overseas Chinese leaders could continue to communicate your specific views on the convening of a New Political Consultative Conference at any time by telegraph, so as to facilitate progress. Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, October 1.
