[1] After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Chen Jiageng organized and led the "General Association of Nanyang Overseas Chinese for the Relief of Refugees in the Motherland," actively mobilizing Nanyang overseas Chinese to donate money, purchase national salvation bonds, and select overseas Chinese drivers to return to China, among other efforts. After the victory in the War of Resistance in 1945, Chen Jiageng returned safely to Singapore. On November 18, 1945, ten organizations in Chongqing, including the Jimei Alumni Association, the Xiamen University Alumni Association, and the Fujian Provincial Association, with over 500 prominent figures from various social circles, jointly held the "Grand Meeting to Celebrate the Safety of Overseas Chinese Leader Chen Jiageng." Mao Zedong sent a congratulatory scroll inscribed with this couplet. Chen Jiageng (1874–1961), a native of Xiamen, Fujian, was a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. In his early years, he resided in Singapore and engaged in the rubber business. He joined the Tongmenghui in 1910. After 1913, he founded ten schools in Jimei, including primary and secondary schools, as well as specialized schools for fisheries, commerce, agriculture, kindergarten teacher training, and Chinese classics. In 1918, he founded the Nanyang Overseas Chinese Middle School. In 1921, he founded Xiamen University. In March 1940, he led the Nanyang Overseas Chinese Comfort and Inspection Delegation back to China and visited Yan'an on May 31. After the victory in the War of Resistance, he participated in patriotic and democratic activities. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as a member of the Central People's Government, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.
