To Zheng Weisan and Li Xiannian[1]

(October 24, 1945)

Congratulations on your occupation of Tongbai[2]. Hope you will strive to expand the fruits of victory, annihilate large numbers of diehard troops, occupy a majority of county towns, and create a new situation.

[2] The Tongbai Campaign was launched on October 20, 1945. After a month and a half of continuous operations, the main force of the Central Plains Military Region successively captured four county towns west of the Beiping-Hankou Railway along the Henan-Hubei border—Tongbai, Zaoyang, Xinye, and Tanghe—and annihilated over 2,000 Kuomintang troops.
