This round of KMT–CCP talks has drawn the attention of people throughout the country, for the issues under discussion are not merely matters between two political parties; they bear directly on the interests and well-being of the entire Chinese nation. During these talks, certain questions have been resolved, while others will continue to be negotiated. It is reassuring to note that we are committed to settling all matters through dialogue. Given the current situation, “peace is paramount.” Apart from peaceful negotiations, there is no other viable path. China needs to pursue peaceful nation-building and transform itself into an independent, free, and prosperous new China. Although both sides have encountered several difficulties in their past and present consultations, it is likely that further challenges will arise in the future. Nevertheless, since we have firmly established the principles of peace, democracy, and unity, we remain confident that all difficulties can be gradually overcome.
