Reply to Wedemeyer’s Telegram[1]

(August 25, 1945)

I have been honoured with three telegrams of invitation from Chairman Chiang, and Ambassador Hurley has twice expressed his wish to come to Yan’an. I am deeply touched by such sincerity. I hereby convey specifically that Ambassador Hurley is welcome to come to Yan’an for face-to-face discussions. General Zhou Enlai and I can fly to Chongqing together with Ambassador Hurley on the same plane to honour Chairman Chiang’s invitation, so that all major plans may be consulted upon at an early date.
