Speech at a Meeting of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China[1]

(July 23, 1945)

Hu Zongnan and his forces have already launched their campaign. The question is whether it will be a big fight or a small fight. A small fight means attacking Yetaishan. We must prepare for them to make a big fuss and create a major disturbance. If it is a big fight, we must prepare for them to attack Yan’an.

[1] This is part of Mao Zedong’s speech at a meeting of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on how to repel Hu Zongnan’s forces’ attack on Yetaishan in Chunhua County in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region.
