Speech at a Meeting of Cadres of the Troops Preparing to March Southward[1]

(June 7, 1945)

This time there are two brigades, along with many cadres, who are going to the front. This is a matter concerning the liberation of China.

The gift I present to you today on behalf of the entire Party is: "From small to large, victory is certain." Whether you can achieve victory when you go out this time depends on the quality of army-civilian relations, army-government relations, and officer-soldier relations, as well as the correctness of policies. You must unite with the people as one family. With correct policies, you will be invincible everywhere.

[1] This is a speech by Mao Zedong at a meeting of cadres at and above the battalion level of the Second Echelon of the 359th Brigade and the 1st Garrison Brigade, which were preparing to march southward. On the 18th, the Second Echelon of the 359th Brigade and the 1st Garrison Brigade, under the leadership of Zhang Qilong and Wen Niansheng, set out from Yan'an to march southward.
