Letter to Hurley[1]

(December 16, 1944)

In November, when President Roosevelt won the election, I sent him a telegram of congratulations. In his reply to me, he stated: "To defeat the Japanese aggressors, we are willing to engage in strong cooperation with all anti-Japanese forces in China." Please convey to President Roosevelt that I fully agree with this policy of his and express my thanks to him!

Please have Colonel Barrett bring this letter to you. I hope Colonel Barrett can soon return to Yan'an to resume his work. Other matters to be discussed are all contained in the letter to you from General Zhou Enlai.
