Inscription for Zhang Side’s Funeral Wreath[1]

Salute Comrade Zhang Side, who sacrificed himself for the interests of the people!

[1] At 2 p.m. on September 8, 1944, a memorial service for the martyr Zhang Side was held on the parade ground at the foot of the Western Hills in the rear valley of Zaoyuan, Yan’an. More than 1,000 people attended the memorial meeting, including all officers and soldiers of the Central Guard Regiment, and personnel from the Central Social Affairs Department and organs directly under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The inscription Mao Zedong wrote on the funeral wreath reads: “Salute Comrade Zhang Side, who sacrificed himself for the interests of the people!”
