Telegram to Dong Biwu and Lin Boqu[1]

(August 18, 1944)

When the Political Consultative Conference convenes, you may still adopt the same attitude as last year in attending. If the minor parties put forward democratic proposals, we may cosign them, but we shall not put forward proposals independently, indicating that until a political settlement is achieved, any proposals are out of the question. If Lin Boqu has not yet left Chongqing, he may attend. Should He Yingqin, Yu Hongjun[2], and others attack us, we shall adopt a tit-for-tat attitude to strike back and issue protests to the outside.

[1] This is the main content of Mao Zedong's telegram to Dong Biwu and Lin Boqu concerning the issue of the Third Session of the Third National Political Consultative Conference.

[2] Yu Hongjun was then serving as Political Vice-Minister of Finance of the Nationalist Government (appointed Minister of Finance in November 1944).
