Telegram to Lin Boqu and Dong Biwu[1]

(August 12, 1944)

(1) The draft of the conversation you have drawn up is very good. With slight revisions, it is to be published today in the form of a conversation with Enlai. Upon receipt, distribute it promptly in Chongqing and other places, and immediately arrange to send it abroad. (2) With the fall of Hengyang, the position of the War of Resistance behind enemy lines has become even more important. Our army of 470,000 must demand full recognition from the government; there is no need to speak of five armies and sixteen divisions anymore. (3) The foreigners in Yan’an are very pleased, and they are greatly interested in the development of our army.
