A Passage Added to "Civil War in Germany"[1]

(July 24, 1944)

Now it is not only foreigners who oppose Hitler, but also Germans—Hitler's own associates—who oppose Hitler. Hitler's policy has reached its opposite, and Hitler will soon be buried.

At the present stage, the German civil war is manifested only in the split within the German ruling stratum, and has not yet been launched from the side of the people. However, the mutiny of the Wehrmacht stands on the foundation of the daily rising anti-Hitler sentiment of the German people. Germany's salvation from the fascist brigands' policy of destruction will depend on the German people.

[1] This is a passage added by Mao Zedong to the commentary "Civil War in Germany," which was published in *Liberation Daily* after his review and revision. The German civil war referred to here denotes the bombing incident aimed at assassinating Hitler that occurred at the Führer's headquarters on July 20, 1944, organized by leaders of the Wehrmacht, and the mutiny launched by the Wehrmacht in Berlin and other places.
