Conversation with Guo Zhongrong

(January 1944)

The Chinese Communist Party’s two policies of supporting Chiang Kai-shek in the War of Resistance and supporting Chiang Kai-shek in national reconstruction remain unchanged to this day. [1] Lin or Zhou may go to Chongqing one after the other. [2] The negotiations may take He Bai’s telegram of August [3] as the basis, and during the counteroffensive, Hu Zongnan’s troops and the Border Region’s forces may be dispatched to the front on a proportional basis.

[1] This is part of Mao Zedong’s conversation with Guo Zhongrong, the Nationalist liaison staff officer, when Guo inquired about the Party’s views on cooperation between the two parties.

[2] This is part of Mao Zedong’s conversation when Guo Zhongrong requested that Lin Boqu, Zhu De, and Zhou Enlai go to Chongqing.

[3] This is part of Mao Zedong’s conversation when Guo Zhongrong mentioned He Bai’s telegram of August and the two points concerning the military situation in the Northwest.
