A Letter to Chiang Kai-shek

(December 1, 1942)

Chairman Jiegong of the Political Council:

Previously I was summoned by telegram, but as I happened to be slightly indisposed, I sent Comrade Lin Biao to pay a visit. Should there be any further inquiries hereafter, I respectfully request that you inform me at any time, and I shall naturally hasten to your headquarters to receive instruction. Commissioner Zheng Yanzhuo came to Yan’an to announce the Central Government’s benevolent intentions, and before they could be fully realized, both soldiers and civilians were moved with gratitude. The recent situation here has been fully reported to Brother Zheng, whom I have entrusted to convey it to you for your consideration. Taking the opportunity of Brother Zheng’s return to Chongqing, I am writing this brief letter to express my sincere regards. With respectful wishes for your continued eminence, I remain.

Mao Zedong respectfully submits
