(21 April 1942)

Prepare for the meeting this Saturday.[2] Please delay your departure slightly; once the meeting concludes, you may leave.
Before the meeting, I would also like to have a talk with you. I wonder if you have the time? I will send a horse to fetch you.

Zhou:
Issue 14 of the Monthly Report[3] has been received. Thank you!
The 109 items[1] have been received. The Central Committee has, based on your materials and assessments, issued directives to prepare for the third anti-communist upsurge. At the same time, your materials have been communicated to distant places and cadres in various regions, and reports have been made among cadres in Yan’an. The timing of the Japan-Soviet war is likely to fall between May and August. Before its outbreak, while we prepare to deal with the anti-communist upsurge, we will also continue to intensify inner-Party education, focusing on rectifying the style of study, Party conduct, and literary style, and earnestly carry out the work of reforming our ways and consolidating the interior. This is necessary both for coping with the present difficulties and for embracing future brightness.
