The masthead of *Liberation Daily* inscribed by Mao Zedong.

[1] On April 16, 1941, the Political Bureau meeting of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to publish *Liberation Daily* and appointed Bo Gu as the director and chief writer of the newspaper. The four characters of the *Liberation Daily* masthead were inscribed by Mao Zedong, who wrote a total of seven versions, large and small, for the newspaper to choose from. The image shows the masthead later selected for use by *Liberation Daily*.
