Telegram to Zhou Enlai[1]

(February 2, 1941)

(1) Jianying arrived in Yan’an at ten o’clock this morning. We talked freely for five hours. I have received your letter and am extremely gratified. I have also seen the newspaper inscription[2] and was transported by it. (2) I have received the photograph of Comrade Xiaochao. My respectful thanks.

[1] This is the main content of Mao Zedong’s telegram to Zhou Enlai.

[2] This refers to the inscription by Zhou Enlai published in Chongqing’s *Xinhua Daily* on January 18: “Mourn with grief the martyrs who died for the nation in Jiangnan!” “An eternal, unparalleled injustice—a single leaf from Jiangnan; brothers fighting each other within the same chamber—why such frantic mutual torment!?”
