Ye Ting Should Cross to the North of the
River Within Two Weeks

(January 2, 1941, midnight)

Ye [Ting] and Xiang [Ying]:

I trust that you have received our telegram of between 9 and 11 P.M. on the 1st.
Xiyi¹ should cross to the north of the river within two weeks so that, together with
Hu Fu [i.e., Liu Shaoqi] they may bring about a unified command of all our troops
and shatter the imminent anti-Communist attack. I await your reply as to what
happens.
