Ye Ting Should Cross the River Quickly

(December 20, 1940, between 9:00 and 11:00 P.M.)

Ye [Ting] and Xiang [Ying]:

[Ye] Xiyi had better cross the River as soon as possible and should not ask Chiang
[Kaishek]'s approval. If Chiang opposes it, then it is best not to cross the River.
Careful arrangements have to be made along the River. Contact must be made
quickly with Hu Fu and [Zhang] Yunyi so that they may prepare on the other side
of the River.
