Speech on the Issue of Friction Between the Old and New Armies in Shanxi[1]

(January 10, 1940)

Regarding the issue of friction between the old and new armies in Shanxi, it is correct for us to adopt a firm and resolute policy. Our policy of countering friction is, on the one hand, to take the offensive in areas where our army holds military superiority, and on the other hand, to also take the offensive in theory, so as to isolate the diehards.

[1] This is part of Mao Zedong's speech on the issue of friction between the old and new armies in Shanxi at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
