Condolence Telegram to the Family of Ma Xiangbo[1]

(November 1939)

To the esteemed family of Mr. Ma Xiangbo:

Mr. Ma Xiangbo suddenly departed from this world on the 4th of this month. The Old Man Star has dimmed, and grief is shared across the seas. Many regrets yet remain, for the Japanese invaders have not been exterminated. We who survive bear the responsibility, vowing to avenge the national enemy. May his spirit in heaven find some solace therein. We send this telegram to express our condolences, and respectfully beg you to restrain your sorrow.
