Inscription for Dai Jingyuan[1]

(July 7, 1939)

Advance step by step, and victory will follow step by step!

Mao Zedong

[1] In the summer of 1939, after more than a year of intense effort day and night, Dai Jingyuan and his comrades deciphered the enemy army’s “heavenly book.” This was a major victory for our army, and its success held extremely important practical significance for frontline operations. On July 9 of the same year, Mao Zedong, accompanied by Teng Daiyuan, Deputy Chief of the Central Military Commission General Staff, summoned Comrades Dai Jingyuan and others, calling them “unsung heroes,” and wrote this inscription for Dai Jingyuan with his brush.
