Conversation with Two Teachers from the Fine Arts Department of Lu Xun Academy of Arts and Literature Applying for Party Membership[1]

(February 1939)

Tsarist Russia oppressed revolutionary party members. Lenin was once exiled to Siberia. But even in Siberia, Lenin could still read and write. Chiang Kai-shek adopted even more barbaric and brutal methods against the Chinese Communist Party, summed up as "Better to kill a thousand by mistake than let one escape." In applying to join the Communist Party, you must be prepared to live a lifetime of arduous struggle and be ready to sacrifice your own lives when necessary!

[1] Two teachers from the Fine Arts Department of Lu Xun Academy of Arts and Literature submitted applications for Party membership. Mao Zedong arranged a conversation with the two teachers applying for Party membership. This is part of the conversation.
